…that Apollo 11 reached the moon.   (Well yesterday techincally, since I’m postingthis a bit late).  Which is still freaking  amazing.  So here’s the restored NASA footage of the first moonwalk:

I’ve noticed that awesome documentary For All Mankindis one YouTube;,  beginning has my my favorite space launch-footage.  And since he just died, here’s Walter Cronkite on covering Apollo.

There are weirdly people who believe the whole lunar landing business was a hoax.   I think Buzz Aldrin more or less has the right reaction to that.

Michael Lewis is a good clear writer, and in the article “The Man Who Crashed the World” in Vanity Fair goes some way towards explaining what was going inside AIG to find out what they were thinking when they got on the hook for all of those credit default swaps.

I’m a little slow given how he died about three weeks ago, but here are some videos in rememberance of gifted singer, dancer and weirdo Michael Jackson.  First up is Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers dancing to “Thriller”.

Next, Fred Astaire dancing in “Smooth Criminal”.

Steve Martin dancing to “Billie Jean”

And finally, we have Thriller as perforned by 1,500 prisoners inside a Philipine maximum security prison.  Yes, really.

Zankou Tragedy

Posted in Culture on July 14, 2009 by heckblazer

Zankou Chicken is a family-run chain in Los Angeles that sells rotisserie chicken and other Armenian food.  The chicken is to die for, most especially when it comes with the house garlic sauce.   I’d say it’s the best chicken in LA, and I do believe Beck would agree with me. What I just learned recently was tragic double-murder suicide committed by the family patriarch six years ago.  A very sad story for a familythat’s brought me such food joy.
